LOS ANGELES, Calif. -- The No. 9-ranked University of Michigan women's gymnastics team posted two individual event victories in its 197.725-196.9175 loss to No. 4 UCLA on Saturday (Feb. 14) at Pauley Pavilion.
Sophomore Sophie Parenti debuted a new uneven bars routine and scored a career-best 9.950 for the individual event title, while Jahzara Ranger earned a career-high 9.925 on the beam for the individual title. Additionally, Sophia Diaz notched a career-best 9.925 on the floor.
The Wolverines tied a season-best on the uneven bars to start the night as Ava Jordan led off with a 9.900 and Diaz stuck the second landing of the rotation for a 9.850. Myli Lew matched Diaz with a 9.850 before Parenti earned her second straight uneven bars title with a career-best 9.950. Michigan carried a slight lead, 49.325-49.225, into the second rotation of the meet.
UCLA notched a 49.500 in the second rotation on uneven bars to reclaim the lead as Ranger paced U-M with a 9.850 on the vault.
Michigan bounced back in the third rotation as Peyton Davis debuted a 9.825 in the leadoff spot, while Quincy Walters and Parenti earned back-to-back 9.875s. The Wolverines continued to build on their scores as Diaz notched a career-best 9.925 and Bauman matched with a 9.925 of her own. Ranger closed out the rotation with the third 9.875 for Michigan as it trailed UCLA, 148.075-147.725, with one rotation remaining.
Parenti led off with a solid 9.875 on the beam and Ranger earned the title with a 9.925 in the five spot. Junior Kayli Boozer notched her third 9.900 of the season in the anchor to close out the meet for U-M.
Michigan will host Rutgers Saturday (Feb. 21) at 3:45 p.m. when it celebrates its alumnae and 50 years of Michigan women's gymnastics. The match is slated to air on B1G+ from Crisler Center.
