
Michigan to Celebrate 50 Years of Women's Gymnastics Against Rutgers

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The No. 9-ranked University of Michigan women's gymnastics team (5-2, 2-2 Big Ten) returns to Crisler Center on Saturday (Feb. 21) to host Rutgers (5-4, 1-4 Big Ten) at 3:45 p.m., with the action to be streamed live on B1G+. The meet will celebrate 50 years of Michigan women's gymnastics.

• The Wolverines celebrate their 50th season as a program against Rutgers. Since becoming a program in 1976, Michigan has won 27 Big Ten titles, eight regular-season Big Ten titles and one national championship (2021). In its 50 seasons, U-M has had 212 All-American citations from 53 athletes. The Wolverines have had 17 AAI Award finalists and four winners, including back-to-back winners Natalie Wojcik and Sierra Brooks. Michigan has broken the 198-barrier on 12 occasions, with a team-high score of 198.525 in 2022. U-M has produced 114 individual Big Ten champions and has had 15 Big Ten Gymnast of the Year nods.
• Michigan enters week eight of the season as the No. 4 balance beam team in the country. The Wolverines rank inside the top 15 on all four events, including No. 12 on uneven bars and floor exercise and No. 14 on the vault.
• Individually, Kayli Boozer moved up one spot for the second straight week in the national rankings as she is No. 5 on the beam, while Carly Bauman ranks 12th on beam and 14th on floor, moving up in both events.
• Sophomore Sophie Parenti earned Big Ten Specialist of the Week honors on Tuesday (Feb. 17) after she debuted her new uneven bars routine at UCLA. Parenti scored a career-best 9.950 in her first appearance with the new routine and stuck the landing. The sophomore also recorded a 9.875 on both beam and floor at UCLA.
• The sophomore class led the Wolverines at UCLA, with three career-high performances. Parenti scored a 9.950 on the uneven bars with a stuck landing, surpassing her previous career-best of a 9.900. Sophia Diaz earned a 9.925 on floor, besting her previous high of 9.900. Jahzara Ranger closed out the night with a 9.925 on the beam, sticking her dismount.
• In week one of the season, Michigan broke the program beam record with a 49.650 at the Sprouts Farmers Collegiate Quad. The score broke the previous program best (49.625) set in the 2023 season. U-M put up back-to-back 9.950s behind collegiate debuts from Walters and Jordan. Boozer recorded Michigan's third 9.950 of the rotation before Bauman anchored with a 9.925.
• Michigan will head to State College, Pa., next Saturday (Feb. 28) to compete at the Big Ten Quad Meet against host Penn State, Nebraska and Washington. The meet is set to start at 6 p.m. and will be broadcast live on Big Ten Network.
