
Ray, Mladenovic Capture Gold on Day Two of Big Ten Championships

MADISON, Wis. -- The No. 12-ranked University of Michigan men's swimming and diving team captured two event titles on Thursday (Feb. 26) to sit second with 491 points at the Big Ten Men's Swimming and Diving Championships at Soderholm Family Aquatic Center.
The Maize and Blue had a strong first morning in the pool as Michigan put eight swimmers and two divers into A finals. It is the first time U-M has had two divers reach the championship final since 2020.
Tyler Ray got the finals session off to an impressive start, winning the 100-yard butterfly for the second straight year and posting a time of 43.83 seconds. The time is a new school, Big Ten and Big Ten Championship record.
Luka Mladenovic shined in the 100-yard breaststroke, winning his first conference crown in the event with a program-best 50.69. His win is the first for Michigan in the event since Bruno Ortiz in 2015.
Lorne Wigginton was in a tight battle in the 400-yard IM and took second overall with a school record mark of 3:35.21.
Antoine Sauve finished fourth in the 200-yard freestyle in his first final as a Wolverine, posting a time of 1:32.65.
In the dive well, Julian Cardenas finished fourth with a mark of 359.25, while Emmitt Reesor took eighth with a score of 309.80 in the one-meter dive.
Michigan closed the session with a silver medal in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:15.71.
U-M will be back in action on Friday (Feb. 27) for the third day of the Big Ten Championships at Soderholm Family Aquatic Center. Preliminaries will start at 10 a.m. CT, with finals commencing at 5 p.m. CT. Both sessions will be streamed live on B1G+.
