
Harlan Finishes Third in Long Jump, Michigan Eighth After Day Two of B1G Indoor Championships

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- Amare Harlan of the University of Michigan women's track and field team took home bronze in the long jump on Friday (Feb. 27) on the second day of the Big Ten Indoor Championships at Fall Creek Pavilion. The Maize and Blue is in eighth place with one day left in the meet.
Harlan picked up the Wolverines' first medal, finishing third in the long jump with a personal best of 6.36 meters (20 feet, 10.5 inches). Harlan's mark is tied for No. 2 on the program performers list and is just 0.02m shy of tying the program record. Kourtney Rathke placed 14th with a mark of 5.96m (19-6.75).
Harlan later ran a personal best time of 7.37 seconds in the 60-meter dash preliminaries to finish fifth, tying the No. 3 time on the program performers list and qualifying her for the finals. Keyanna O'Tey placed 11th with a time of 7.41 in her Big Ten Indoor Championships debut.
Graduate transfer Chyler Turner tied her personal best time of 8.22 in the 60-meter hurdles, finishing second in her heat to advance to the finals.
Samantha Hastie qualified for the mile run finals, running 4:42.24 in the prelims to advance on time. Penelopea Gordon finished 12th (4:44.69) and Hannah Pricco finished 14th (4:45.99).
Emmry Ross finished ninth in the 800-meter run prelims with a time of 2:05.50, just 0.05 seconds from qualifying for the finals. Stephanie Bertram finished in 14th place (2:07.30).
In the 400-meter dash prelims, Payton Smith finished ninth with a time of 53.72, coming just 0.34 seconds from advancing to the finals. Sidney Green placed 20th with a time of 54.87.
Gabriella Newman tied for 10th in the high jump after clearing 1.70m (5-7) while Abigail Russell finished 23rd in the weight throw with a mark of 18.43m (60-5.75).
U-M will close out the Big Ten Indoor Championships on Feb. 28, with the shot put set to kick off the day at noon. Day three action from Fall Creek Pavilion will be streamed live on B1G+.
