ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The No. 15-ranked University of Michigan women's tennis team won the doubles point and all six singles matches in straight sets in its non-conference finale, recording a 4-0 win over Oakland on Sunday afternoon (April 12) at the Varsity Tennis Center.
U-M came away with the doubles point for the third straight match behind wins at No. 3 and No. 1. At No. 3, Laura Rahnel and Ava Bruno dropped just one game in a 6-1 win.
With the remaining courts just one game away from victory, it was the No. 1 pair of Reese Miller and Piper Charney who clinched the first point of the match. The Wolverines got the break they needed at 3-1 and only yielded one game the rest of the way, taking a 6-2 win on a double fault.
Michigan took all six first sets in singles. Charney was first off court, dropping just three games in a 6-1, 6-2 win at the top of the lineup. She won the first five games of the match and rode the momentum from there.
Miller followed with a 6-3, 6-1 win at No. 2. She went up a break at 4-2 in the first set and consolidated it in the next game en route to the win. In the second, she lost just one game to push the Michigan lead to 4-0.
Gabriella Lindgren clinched the team match for the Wolverines with a 6-3, 6-1 win at No. 3. Lindgren grabbed a couple of breaks early in the first set but gave one back before winning the final two games to take the set. It was all Lindgren in the second in a 6-1 win.
