ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The No. 17-ranked University of Michigan women's tennis team (15-6, 11-1 Big Ten) wraps up the regular season on Saturday (April 18), heading to Michigan State (11-8, 4-8 Big Ten) to face the Spartans. With a win, Michigan will clinch at least a share of the 2026 Big Ten championship.
Notes
• Michigan wraps up the regular season this weekend, heading to East Lansing to face Michigan State. The Wolverines have won 14 of their last 16 matches.
• U-M has won 25 straight against Michigan State and is 60-17 all-time against the Spartans. The Wolverines picked up a 4-0 win over MSU last season at the Varsity Tennis Center.
• Michigan enters the weekend tied atop the Big Ten standings with USC and Ohio State, which each play twice this weekend. With a win, Michigan will clinch at least a share of the Big Ten championship.
• A win would mark Michigan's 14th Big Ten championship in program history, moving into sole possession of second place in Big Ten women's tennis history. U-M has won the last three championships. A win would mark the 13th Big Ten championship for head coach Ronni Bernstein, which would move her into a three-way tie for the most conference championships by a head coach in Big Ten women's tennis history.
• The last time Michigan won a championship on the road came in 2019 when the Wolverines captured a 5-0 win at Maryland on April 14.
• U-M stayed in the top 25 of the ITA team rankings for the fourth straight week, coming in at No. 17 after going 3-0 at the VTC last weekend. Michigan is one of five Big Ten schools ranked in the top 25.
• The Wolverines have won 11 straight Big Ten matches after dropping their conference opener at No. 3 Ohio State on March 6. U-M's 11 conference wins are the third most in a season in program history. It is the 16th time in Bernstein's 19 seasons that Michigan has won double-figure Big Ten matches.
• U-M is 12-1 when winning the doubles point and 3-5 without it. Michigan most recently took a 4-1 win at Northwestern (April 5) without the doubles point. U-M swept all three doubles points at the VTC last weekend.
• Lily Jones became the first Wolverine to reach the 20-win mark in singles this year after recording a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 2 in Michigan's win over Penn (Jan. 24). She is 28-9 on the season, reaching 20 wins for the fourth straight season. She picked up the 100th win of her career during the NCAA Singles Championship and is now tied for fifth all-time at Michigan with 113 singles wins.
• Michigan has a trio of ranked singles players in Piper Charney (No. 11), Jones (No. 38) and Reese Miller (No. 89). Charney and Jones each earned ITA All-America honors in singles this past fall by reaching the round of 16 in the NCAA Singles Championship.
• Michigan has four players who have reached the 20-win mark on the singles court in Jones (28), Miller (27), Emily Sartz-Lunde (24) and Charney (21).
• Laura Maser and Ava Bruno each picked up the first dual-match wins of their careers in Michigan's win over Oakland (April 11). All 10 Wolverines have each won their last match.
• Bernstein is in her 19th season as the head coach, holding a 563-202 overall coaching record. She has led Michigan to 12 Big Ten championships and six Big Ten tournament titles.
• Michigan heads to the Big Ten Tournament next Friday through Sunday, April 24-26, in Columbus. U-M will have a bye into the quarterfinals, which begin on Friday (April 24).
