
Wolverines to Head West for Big Ten Tournament Run

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan men's tennis team (13-9) will open postseason play Wednesday (April 22) at the Big Ten Tournament, hosted at Libbey Park in Ojai, Calif. The four-day event will conclude with the championship match Saturday (April 25).
Notes
• Michigan will face No. 10 seed Nebraska (11-13) in the first round Wednesday in the second of two matches, scheduled for 2 p.m. PT. The winner advances to the quarterfinals to meet No. 2 seed Ohio State.
• Michigan is the No. 7 seed after finishing the conference schedule 8-5. Overall, the Wolverines are 13-9 and are riding a six-match win streak into the postseason.Â
• In the new format Big Ten Tournament, 10 of the 14 teams qualified, with two first-round matches on Wednesday, followed by four quarterfinal matches on Thursday. The semifinals will be held on Friday (April 24) with the championship on Saturday (April 25). All matches will be streamed live on B1G+, without audio.
• Michigan last won the Big Ten Tournament in 2022, defeating Ohio State in Madison, Wisc. The Wolverines and Buckeyes have met in two of the past three title matches (2023, 2024). Last season, Michigan fell 4-1 to eventual champion UCLA in the quarterfinals.
• Max Dahlin extended his nation-leading active win streak to 16 after a sweep this past weekend. He is 18-1 at No. 1 singles and 27-3 overall. Adding to Dahlin's strong performance in singles, he is 10-0 in breakers -- also winning two last weekend. He earned All-America honors in the discipline in the fall and is currently ranked No. 8 in the ITA singles rankings
• Bjorn Swenson was named the Big Ten co-Player of the Week after he went 4-0 during his senior weekend, winning both singles and doubles matches. He is currently riding a six-match singles win streak and has now clinched a team-best six matches, five of which have come in Big Ten matches. Swenson currently sits No. 51 in the ITA rankings, his highest career ranking.
• Nicholas Steiglehner has won his last five singles matches, while Alex Cairo is also on a winning streak, with three straight.
• The Wolverines have two doubles pairs ranked in Dahlin and Swenson at No. 25 and Dahlin and Pierce Shaya at No. 88. Michigan is 7-1 when it wins the doubles point this season.
• Michigan holds a 13-2 all-time record against Nebraska, including a 4-1 win earlier this season (March 6) in Ann Arbor. The Wolverines secured the doubles point with wins at Nos. 1 and 3 and picked up singles victories from Dahlin, Mert Oral and Arnav Bhandari.
• Nebraska enters as the No. 10 seed after a three-way tiebreak with Penn State and Northwestern, with all three teams finishing 3-10 in conference play. The Huskers are 11-13 overall and 1-4 in their last five matches. Nikolay Sysoev leads the team and is ranked No. 117 in the ITA singles rankings (April 14).
