GLENDALE, Calif. -- The University of Michigan women's golf team closed play at the Big Ten Championships with a final-round 304 on Sunday (April 26), finishing with a 54-hole total of 905 to tie for 14th place at Oakmont Country Club.
The Wolverines opened the championship with a 296 on Friday (April 24) and sat 12th after the opening round, just four shots out of seventh in a tightly packed field. They followed with a 305 on Saturday and entered the final round in 15th before improving one spot on Sunday.
Senior Lauren Sung and freshman Jaymie Ng paced the Wolverines in the final round with matching four-over-par 74s. With identical tournament totals of 224 (74-76-74), the duo tied for 42nd individually. Freshman Reese Ng closed with a 75 to tie for 50th at 225.
Senior Sydney Sung tied for 85th at 242. Senior Mara Janess competed in the first two rounds before sophomore Thomasine Bartholdson entered the lineup for Sunday's final round and posted an 81.
USC led from start to finish to claim the Big Ten title with an 844 (+4), while Jasmine Koo earned medalist honors at three-under-par 207 (69-70-68). Teammate Bailey Shoemaker tied for runner-up at 209 (-1) as three Trojans finished among the top 10.
Michigan will next learn its postseason destination during the NCAA Selection Show on Wednesday (April 29) at 4 p.m. on Golf Channel. The Wolverines will then serve as one of six NCAA Regional host sites May 11-13 at the U-M Golf Course. It marks the second time in four years Ann Arbor has hosted.
The top five teams from each regional, along with the top individual not on an advancing team, will advance to the NCAA Finals May 22-27 at Omni La Costa Resort & Spa.
