ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan men's tennis team (9-9, 5-5 Big Ten) will play a doubleheader on Saturday (April 11) at the Varsity Tennis Center. The Wolverines first host Michigan State (13-7, 10-0 Big Ten) at 3:30 p.m., following the U-M women's match. The Maize and Blue will be back on the courts at 8 p.m. against Toledo (7-14). Admission to all matches is free.
Notes
• Michigan swept last weekend in its trip to the Pacific Northwest, defeating Oregon 4-1 and Washington 4-2. Against the Ducks, the Wolverines won the doubles point and had singles wins at Nos. 1, 2 and 4. In Seattle, Michigan used strong singles play to overcome a 1-0 deficit after dropping the doubles point, winning at Nos. 1, 2, 4 and 6.
• The Wolverines are No. 46 in the ITA rankings with a 9-9 overall record and a 5-5 Big Ten record. Michigan has two ranked singles players and two ranked doubles pairs. Max Dahlin moved up two places to No. 8 this week, while Bjorn Swenson made the jump to No. 65. Dahlin is a member of both ranked doubles pairs, sitting at No. 21 with Swenson and No. 55 with Pierce Shaya.
• Dahlin won both of his singles matches to push his win streak to 13. He defeated Oregon's No. 18-ranked Vlad Breazu and Washington's Soham Purohit, both in straight sets. Dahlin is now 15-1 in dual play and 24-3 overall this season. He is also 8-0 in Big Ten play and has an 11-2 record against ranked opponents.
• Swenson captured back-to-back wins at No. 2 singles last weekend to extend his win streak to three. The senior is 8-3 in dual play and 16-7 overall. He is two wins away from reaching 60 in his career.
• Shaya and Dahlin defeated No. 40-ranked Matthew Burton and Pierre Mouesca of Oregon 6-4 on Friday. It marked the highest-ranked opponent they have beaten this season. The duo is 7-3, all at the No. 1 position.
• Michigan holds a 109-20 record over Michigan State in the all-time series, including a 27-3 mark this century. The Spartans won last year's meeting, a 4-2 decision in East Lansing, snapping a 23-match win streak for the Wolverines.
• U-M is undefeated (17-0) against Toledo. The teams last squared off on May 6, 2023, in the first round of the NCAA Tournament in Ann Arbor, with Michigan winning 4-0. The Wolverines went on to reach the Elite Eight that season.
• MSU is ranked No. 20 with a 13-7 overall record and is on a 10-match win streak. The Spartans are 10-0 in the Big Ten and have three ranked singles players: Matthew Forbes (14), Aristotelis Thanos (31) and Ozan Baris (50). They also have three ranked doubles pairs: Taym Alazmeh/Danial Rakhmatullayev (32), Thanos/Mitchell Sheldon (62) and Baris/Forbes (63).
• Toledo enters the weekend with a 7-14 record and will host Buffalo in a conference match at 1 p.m. on Saturday before making the trip to Ann Arbor. The Rockets do not have any ranked players.
