Ali'i Niumatalolo is in his first year as Michigan's assistant tight ends coach in 2026.

Niumatalolo is in his fifth year coaching in 2026. He joined the staff in Ann Arbor following one season at Utah State, where he was a senior analyst working with the tight end room. At Utah State, the Aggies averaged 30.9 points (36th FBS, 2nd Mountain West) and 409.5 total yards (39th FBS, 3rd Mountain West) per game.

In 2024, Niumatalolo earned his first post as a position coach, leading the outside linebackers room at Utah Tech. He worked with Rick Mua'e, who was named an FCS Freshman All-American after recording 25 tackles, including 5.5 for loss with 3.0 sacks.

Niumatalolo began his coaching career as a quality control coach at his alma mater, Utah, in 2022. He moved into a graduate assistant role at UCLA for the 2023 season, working with the offense.

Niumatalolo played tight end and fullback at Utah (2017-21), appearing in 47 games and graduating as a scholarship player after beginning his career as a walk-on. He graduated with a sociology degree in 2022. He is the son of longtime Navy head coach and current San José State head coach Ken Niumatalolo and Barbara Niumatalolo.
