ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- University of Michigan field hockey players Loveita Wilkinson (New Castle, Del./William Penn HS) and Kelli Gannon (Escondido, Calif./San Pasqual HS) have been named to the 1998 National Field Hockey Coaches Association All-America team, with Wilkinson earning first-team honors and Gannon making the second team.
Wilkinson, a midfielder who was a third-team All-American in 1997, finished her Michigan career with 15 goals and 40 points. She becomes the second Wolverine sticker to earn first-team honors (Julie Flachs, 1997).
Gannon, a sophomore, is quickly becoming recognized as one of the nation's premier forwards. She finished the season as Michigan's leading scorer with 11 goals and 27 points, giving her 16 career goals and 39 points. Additionally, she had four game-winning goals for the Maize and Blue, second on the team. Her 27 points were the ninth-best single season total in school history.
The Wolverines finished the 1998 season ranked 10th nationally with a 15-6 record but were not selected for the 12-team NCAA Tournament.
