Looking Back at BYU
The Wolverines suffered their second consecutive shutout to a ranked opponent when they fell 1-0 to No. 20 Brigham Young at the Michigan Soccer Field on Friday, Oct. 30. The Cougars outshot the Wolverines 18-11 and dominated play a good portion of the game. Jessica Jones (Northville, Mich./Northville HS) made nine saves but saw her record drop to 6-2-0.
Looking Back at Kentucky
U-M ended the regular season in specatacular fashion, defeating the Ketucky Wildcats 1-0 in the closing seconds as Amber Berendowsky (Brighton, Mich./Brighton HS) launched a 15-yard blast to the upper left hand corner with just five seconds remaining in regulation time.
SEASON NOTES
- The Wolverines' 12-5-1 record marks the second-highest win total in school history. Last year's team finished 18-4-1.
- Michigan faced five top-25 teams this season and compiled a 1-3-1 record in those games, with the win over No. 16 Indiana and the tie against No. 7 Penn State.
- During the Big Ten regular season, U-M compiled a 3-3-1 record against opponents in this season's Big Ten Tournament.
- The Wolverines have never faced Northwestern in a quaterfinal match of the Big Ten Tournament. The two teams' only conference tournament meeting was last season's 1-0 double-overtime Michigan victory in the title game.
- Michigan is attempting to be the first team to repeat as Big Ten Conference Tournament champion. Indiana (1996) and Michigan (1997) are the only two teams to win the tournament title after not winning the regular-season crown.
- Junior Amber Berendowsky (Brighton, Mich./Brighton HS) became Michigan's career leader in goals scored in the 3-1 win over Toledo on Oct. 14 as she tallied her 33rd goal, breaking the previous record of the 32 set by Ruth Poulin (1994-97). Berendowsky owns every career and season offensive school record, with career marks for goals (35), assists (27), points (97) and game-winning goals (10) and season records, set in 1997, for goals (18), assists (17), points (53) and game-winning goals (6).
- Senior Jessica Limauro (Troy, Mich./Troy HS) is one point shy of turning in her highest season point total as a Wolverine. Limauro has registered 25 points on nine goals and seven assists. Her seven assists are a season high for her.
- Senior goalkeeper Jessica Jones (Northville, Mich./Northville HS) is Michigan's career shutouts leader with 17, including two solo shutouts this year. Nine of the 17 were shared.
