ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The 11th-ranked University of Michigan field hockey team posted its third consecutive shutout as the Wolverines beat the Stanford Cardinal 4-0 in front of 367 spectators at Ocker Field. U-M spread the scoring around as six individuals notched points.
The Stanford defense was outstanding in the first half as it held the Wolverines scoreless on one shot. Michigan's Kelli Gannon (Escondido, Calif./San Pasqual HS) opened the scoring just three minutes into the second half on a penalty corner play. Senior Amy Philbrook (Marblehead, Mass./Marblehead HS) followed Gannon 11 minutes later as she netted her fifth goal of the season.
From that point, the Wolverines appeared relaxed and confident while Stanford saw the hopes of an upset slipping away. Jessie Veith (Oak Park, Ill./Oak Park-River Forest HS) scored her fourth goal of the weekend just five minutes later to put the game out of reach. Sophomore Courtney Reid (South Deerfield, Mass./Northfield Mount Hermon HS) capped the scoring for the Maize and Blue with her first goal of the season to go along with two assists in the game.

QUOTES
Michigan Head Coach Marcia Pankratz
"We stuck to our game plan. Stanford is a very good team, but once we got a goal, we relaxed a bit and were able to take control. We expected a good game."
