Assistant Coaches Named to U.S. National Team

The 1999 squad will feature 11 players from the 1998 World Cup team which placed eighth in the World Cup in Utrecht, the Netherlands. The 18-player 1999 squad will form the basis for the team that will represent the U.S. at the XIII Pan American Games, which will be held July 24-Aug. 8 in Winnipeg, Canada. The U.S. hopes to top its runner-up finish at the 1995 Pan American Games in Mar de Plata, Argentina.
Fuchs, the most-capped player in American history, will attempt to earn her fourth medal in four trips to the Pan American Games. In 1991, she was a member of the bronze medal squad while earning silver in 1987 and 1995. Peggy Storrar, U-M's goalkeeping coach and the 1998 USFHA Athlete of the Year, earned her fifth selection to the team and will be attempting to earn her first trip to the Pan American Games. She was an alternate on the 1996 U.S. Olympic Team.
Prior to the Pan American Games, the U.S. National Team will host the Canadian and Chilean national teams in February in San Diego. In April, it will travel to Spain to take on the Spanish National Team. In June, the team will travel to Winnipeg for a four-nation tournament in preparation for July's Pan American Games.
