Season Bests Help U-M Tie for Eighth at Stetson Tourney

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- The University of Michigan women's golf team used consistent play and season-best scoring to capture its third top 10 finish of the year with a tie for eighth at Stetson's Hatter Spring Fling Saturday and Sunday (March 18-19) at Pelican Bay Country Club's North Course.
The Wolverines opened the two-day tournament firing a 329 first-round total but came back to shoot 320 in the second round en route to a 649 total, a U-M season best for a 36-hole tournament. The Wolverines tied with Austin Peay State for eighth place.
Iowa won the overall team title as the Hawkeyes tallied a two-round total of 617 (302-315) to finish 10 shots ahead of runner-up Bethune-Cookman (310-317/627). Yale's Sarah Seo (76-70/146) won the individual title by four strokes over Stetson's Hollie Martin (74-76/150).
For the second straight spring tournament sophomore Cortney Reno (Grosse Ile, Mich./Grosse Ile HS) led the way for the Wolverines, shooting a career-low 75 on Sunday on the way to a 154 total and her best career finish, a tie for sixth. Sophomore Misia Lemanski (Grosse Ile, Mich./Grosse Ile HS) followed suit as she finished tied for 28th after a season-best tournament total of 162, tying her season best with an 80 in the first round and following that with an 82.
Other finishes for the Wolverines included: freshman Kim Benedict (Rochester Hills, Mich./Rochester Adams HS), tied for 47th (85-82/167); junior Amy Talbot (Plantation, Fla./St. Thomas Aquinas HS), tied for 55th (88-81/169) and sophomore Bess Bowers (Bloomington, Ind./North HS), tied for 62nd (85-86/171).
In her second tournament of the year, junior Jennifer Baumann (Okemos, Mich./Okemos HS) competed as an individual and finished tied for 43rd after a season-best tournament total of 166, including a season-low 82 in the first round.
The Wolverines will stay north for their next tournament as they participate in Southern Illinois' Saluki Invitational March 26-27 at Hickory Ridge Golf Club in Carbondale, Ill.

• Michigan's 649 team total at the Hatter Spring Fling is a season low for a 36-hole tournament, bettering the 650 total at the Wolverine Invitational (Oct. 9-10) and the 651 total at the Hatter Fall Classic (Oct. 24-25).
• Sophomore Cortney Reno set career bests for individual finish (tie-6th), low round (75 in the second round) and 36-hole tournament total (154). Her previous bests, respectively, were a tie for 23rd at the Wolverine Invitational (Oct. 9-10), a 77 in the second round of the Mary Fossum Invitational (Sept. 25-26) and a 163 total at the Hatter Fall Classic (Oct. 24-25).
• Redshirt junior Jennifer Baumann competed in just her second tournament of the year and 14th of her career, and she finished tied for 43rd after a season-best tournament total of 166. Her only other tournament this season was the Wolverine Invitational (Oct. 9-10) for the maize team.
