BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- Junior catcher David Parrish (Yorba Linda, Calif./Esperanza HS) blasted a pair of home runs in leading the University of Michigan baseball team to a 4-3 win at Indiana Sunday afternoon (April 2). The Wolverines (9-15-1, 2-6 Big Ten) gained a series split at Indiana with the win, while Indiana dropped to 20-12, 3-5 Big Ten.

Parrish singled in the first inning to extend his hitting streak to nine games and hit solo homers in the fifth and seventh innings to give the Wolverines leads of 2-1 and 3-2. Parrish, who leads the Wolverines in Big Ten play with a .355 average, now leads the Wolverines with seven homers on the season.

Junior RHP Vince Pistilli (Highland, Ind./Highland HS) worked the first 7.1 innings, allowing five hits and all three runs to earn the win. Sophomore RHP Phil Lobert (Spring Lake, Mich./Grand Haven HS) recorded his second save of the season by working the last 1.2 innings. Lobert had two strikeouts.

Michigan scored in the first with two outs against IU starter and loser Fred Graf (4-5). With two outs freshman DH Brock Koman (Pueblo, Colo./South HS) walked and moved to third on Parrish's single. Senior CF Rob Bobeda (DeWitt, Mich./DeWitt HS) singled to center to drive in Koman.

The Wolverines added an insurance run in the eighth inning as sophomore/freshman Mike Sokol (Sterling Heights, Mich./DeLaSalle HS) delivered a two-out double, the first extra-base hit of his career, to drive in the run. Sokol was 2-for-4, his first career multiple-hit game.

IU tied the game three times and Lobert retired a pair of pinch hitters with the tying run on second base to end the game.

Michigan hosts Toledo in a non-conference game Tuesday (April 4, 3 p.m.) before heading to Illinois for a Big Ten weekend series (April 7-9). Sophomore LHP Kirk Taylor (Farmington Hills, Mich./North Farmington HS), 0-0 with a 3.38 ERA, is the tentative starter against Toledo.

N O T E S

David Parrish's first-inning single extended his hit streak to nine games. Parrish with two homers in the game has moved his career total to 21. With 21 homers Parrish is tied for 11th place with Jeff Jacobson (1980-83).
