U-M Off to 2-0 Big Ten Start After Shutting Out Hoosiers

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- Freshman goaltender Suzie Grech (Narbeth, Pa./The Shipley School) earned her second career shutout as the University of Michigan women's soccer team blanked No. 22-ranked Indiana 2-0 on Sunday (Sept. 17) at Bill Armstrong Stadium. With the weekend sweep of Purdue and Indiana, Michigan (3-3) is off to a 2-0 start in the Big Ten Conference.
Freshman Amber Wilson (West Chester, Ohio/Lakota West HS) scored her third goal of the season at 19:10 of the first half to put the Wolverines on the board first. Michigan's first-half offensive attack continued with six corner kicks and seven shots on goal. Grech held off the Hoosier offense, making three first-half saves.
Michigan netted an insurance goal in the 79th minute of the game when sophomore Abby Crumpton (Rochester Hills, Mich./Rochester Adams HS) scored her third of the season, off a Kacy Beitel (Midland, Mich./H.H. Dow HS) pass.
Grech finished the game with eight saves, making five stops in the second half. Indiana goalkeeper Shaunna Daugherty stopped seven of the nine shots she faced in the loss.
The Wolverines return home for a two-match conference homestand, facing Wisconsin on Friday (Sept. 22) at 4 p.m. and Minnesota on Sunday (Sept. 24) at 2 p.m. at U-M Soccer Field.
