Golden Gophers Pound Wolverines in Series Finale

Minnesota 3B Jack Hannahan continued his offensive output for the Gophers, going 4-for-4 with a pair of homers and scoring six times in the contest. He was 8-for-16 with four homers in the series, scoring nine times driving in seven runs. Minnesota scored in every inning but the sixth en route to its 26 runs, the most allowed by Michigan since a 26-1 loss at Arizona State in 1972.
Sophomore LHP Rich Hill (Milton, Mass./Milton HS) worked the first 2.2 innings and took the loss to drop his record to 2-3. He allowed the first eight runs, but just three were earned.
Senior SS Bill LaRosa (Rochester, Mich./Adams HS) made his Wolverine pitching debut as the sixth pitcher of the game and he allowed three runs and had a strikeout. LaRosa was 2-for-4 in the game as a shortstop and fanned in his only plate appearance as a pitcher.
Junior/sophomore 1B Nate Wright (Tinley Park, Ill./Andrew HS) led the 14-hit Michigan attack, going 3-for-5 to extend his hitting streak to 12 games.
Michigan breaks for final exams and will host Siena Heights in a non-conference doubleheader Sunday (April 22, 1 p.m.).

Junior/sophomore 1B Nate Wright extended his hitting streak to 12 games with a single in the third inning. Meanwhile, Minnesota CF Sam Steidl had two hits to move his hitting streak to 21 games.
Junior/sophomore Mike Sokol (Sterling Heights, Mich./DeLaSalle HS) led the Wolverines in the series, going 8-for-14 (.571) with two doubles, a homer and five RBI.
Tri-captain Scott Tousa (Dallas, Texas/Lake Highlands HS) went 2-for-6 in the series finale for his 51st career multiple-hit game.
