Wolverines Finish Fifth at Eastern Championship

PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- The University of Michigan women's water polo team concluded its inaugural varsity season with a fifth-place finish at the Eastern Championship on Sunday (April 29). The two-day event, held at the Smith Swim Center on the campus of Brown University, pitted the top eight teams in the East against one another, with the chance to earn the East's bid to the first NCAA Championship.
The No. 15-ranked Wolverines finished the tournament with a 2-1 record. Michigan stumbled in its opening game on Saturday (April 28) with a 7-4 loss to No. 19 Brown but bounced back to defeat George Washington 10-6. The Wolverines quickly disposed of No. 18 Indiana 8-2 on Sunday (April 29) to take home the fifth-place title.
Head coach Amber Drury-Pinto and the Wolverines close out their debut season with an impressive 21-11-1 record. Michigan won the Allegheny Region of the Southern Division with an undefeated record and finished second at the Southern Division Championships (April 7-8).
