Garza (2-1) entered the game in the third inning with Detroit (6-34) holding a 5-2 lead with runners on first and third base. Garza fanned the first batter he faced to end the threat and had four consecutive 1-2-3 innings before allowing two runs on four hits in the eighth, but by then the Wolverines (23-19) held a comfortable lead.
Sophomore RHP Brad McCloskey (Bloomfield Hills, Mich./Brother Rice HS) fanned two in the ninth inning to record his second save of the season.
Michigan used a four-run fifth inning rally to take the lead as Detroit RHP David Wampler's record dropped to 1-7 on the season. Michigan's winning rally had a Texas flavor with freshman RF Brandon Roberts (Arlington, Texas/Martin HS) collecting a bases-loaded walk to cut the Detroit lead to 5-4 and then sophomore catcher Alex Coleman (Lake Highlands, Texas/Lake Highlands HS) roped a double to right for the game-winning hit. Coleman was 2-for-3 in the win.
Senior Scott Tousa (Dallas, Texas/Lake Highlands HS), making his first SS start of the season, knocked in the final run of the fifth inning with a sacrifice fly.
Trzos singled and scored in the fifth and sixth innings when the Wolverines scored seven of their 10 runs. Trzos, who leads the Michigan pitching staff with three saves, collected nine putouts at first base and he doubled his hit total for the season. Trzos, who has made six starts as a DH, is now hitting .207 (6-for-29).
Detroit LHP Matt White worked the final 2.2 innings without allowing a hit. SS Mike Malley paced the Detroit offense, collecting three of the 11 hits by the Titans.
Michigan travels to Michigan State Friday (May 4, 3 p.m.) at Kobs Field in East Lansing with junior RHP Bobby Korecky (Saline, Mich./Saline HS) scheduled to start on the mound for the Wolverines. Korecky is 5-2 with a Big Ten-leading 2.43 ERA. Saturday's (May 5, 1 p.m.) doubleheader will mark the final home Big Ten games for the Wolverines as Sunday's (May 6, 1 p.m.) series finale will be back in East Lansing.

Senior 2B Scott Tousa made his first SS start of the season vs. Detroit after 40 starts at 2B and sophomore Jordan Cantalamessa (Englewood, Colo./Cherry Creek HS) made his first start at 2B after 36 starts in LF. Last season Tousa (SS) and Cantalamessa (2B) made 31 starts as keystone partners.
Tousa singled in his first at bat of the game as he moved his career hit total to 197 as he attempts to become the 10th Wolverine to notch 200 career hits.
Cantalamessa drilled a run-scoring double in the sixth inning, his 15th double of the season, one behind team leader sophomore 3B Brock Koman (Pueblo, Colo./South HS).
Michigan's hitting leaders (for players with at least 70 at bats) after 42 games are: sophomore 3B Brock Koman (.392, 60-for-153); junior/sophomore 1B Nate Wright (.333, 43-for-129); sophomore OF Gino Lollio (.330, 32-for-97); senior 2B Scott Tousa (.320, 47-for-147); and sophomore LF Jordan Cantalamessa (.290, 38-for-131).
