Wood Signs with Yankees; Tousa Agrees to Tigers Deal

Wood, who was drafted by the Minnesota Twins out of high school in 1998, finished the season as the number two starter in the Wolverine pitching rotation. Wood (5-3, 2.57 ERA, two saves) pitched a nine-inning, complete-game win with a career-high 10 strikeouts over second seed Purdue in his final start as a Wolverine during the Big Ten Tournament in Columbus, Ohio, and was named to the Big Ten all-tournament team.
Wood, who started the season as the right-handed closer, recorded a win and a save in a doubleheader sweep by the Wolverines over Indiana (April 7). Wood transferred to Michigan after pitching at Santa Clara as a freshman in 1999 and went 5-8 (5.48 ERA) in his two-year career with the Wolverines, recording 74 strikeouts in 87 innings.
Tousa hit .325 as a senior and led the Wolverines in runs scored (52) and stolen bases (14). He was named winner of the Ted Sizemore Award as the top fielder on the team as he made just four errors in 56 games (.987 fielding percentage) and was perfect (1.000) in Big Ten play. Tousa led the Big Ten in assists (172) and in double plays participated in (47).
Tousa, a 2001 Big Ten all-tournament team pick, finished his career seventh in career hits (217) as a Wolverine. He finished fourth in career at bats (698), eighth in games played (204) and tied for ninth in runs scored (151) at Michigan. Tousa finished his Wolverine career with 60 multiple-hit games.
