The three Michigan representatives and 56 other athletes who advanced from the B Camp will join members of the U.S. National Team, Under-21 team and athletes selected through the U.S. Field Hockey programs at the A Camp. The camp will be held Dec. 27-31 in Chula Vista, Calif., and will feature a week of skill and tactics training that concludes with selections being made to the 2002 U.S. teams.
Michigan has two members on the Under-21 team in sophomores April Fronzoni (Larksville, Pa./Wyoming Valley West HS) and Kristi Gannon (Escondido, Calif./San Pasqual HS) while former player Kelli Gannon (1997-2001), volunteer assistant coach Tracey Fuchs and former assistant Peggy Storrar will also be in Chula Vista as representatives of the U.S. National Team.
Tasch and Maloney are two of the 10 goalkeepers who advanced from B Camp. Tasch, a senior, started 15 games last season and posted a 12-3 record while only allowing 17 goals. Maloney, who will be making her second appearance at the A-Camp, started the other eight games as a freshman for Michigan and notched a 7-1 record. Powers ranked third on the Michigan team in goals scored with 15 and fourth in points with 33.
