ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The National Field Hockey Coaches Association announced today (Wednesday, Dec. 3) that University of Michigan head coach Marcia Pankratz has been named the 2003 Dita/NFHCA West Region Coach of The Year. The award marks the third career Region Coach of the Year honor for Pankratz, who received the honor in 1999 and 2000.

In her eighth season, Pankratz led Michigan (17-6, 5-1 Big Ten) to its fifth straight NCAA Tournament appearance and guided the Wolverines to the NCAA semifinals for the third time in the last five years. Under Pankratz's guidance, U-M was also regular-season co-champion in the Big Ten, marking its fourth title in the last five years.

The 2003 Dita/NFHCA Division I National Coach of the Year will be announced at the NFHCA Awards Luncheon, scheduled for Jan. 10, 2004, in Baltimore, Md.
