Next on the Tee: Closing Out the Fall Season
The 20th-ranked University of Michigan women's golf team will close out the fall season with a trip to Johns Island, S.C., Monday and Tuesday (Nov. 1-2) for the Edwin Watts/Palmetto Intercollegiate at the Oak Point Golf Course at Kiawah Island Resort. The 54-hole tournament will be played in an altered format than the Wolverines normally play. Each day's round will consist of 27 holes, rather than the standard 18 holes. Oak Point will be set up for a par 72 and 6,468 yards.
The Tournament Field
The Edwin Watts/Palmetto Intercollegiate features 18 teams and will include: Appalachian State, Arkansas State, Campbell, Charleston Southern, Cincinnati, The Citadel, Coastal Carolina, College of Charleston, Illinois, Kansas State, Louisville, Michigan, Nebraska, Notre Dame, Oral Roberts, Southern Methodist, Western Carolina and Wisconsin.
The Tournament Schedule
The Edwin Watts/Palmetto Intercollegiate will consist of 54 holes, 27 holes being played each day. The first round of 27 will be played Monday (Nov. 1), followed by the final 27 holes Tuesday (Nov. 2).

The Tournament Scoring Format
Scoring for the Edwin Watts/Palmetto Intercollegiate will be five players, count the low four scores each round. Several schools will be allowed an individual.
The Michigan Lineup at the Edwin Watts/Palmetto Intercollegiate
The Wolverines will carry five players and one individual for the Michigan squad at the Edwin Watts/Palmetto Intercollegiate. Senior Laura Olin (Eden Prairie, Minn./Eden Prairie HS) and sophomore Brianna Broderick (Richmond, Mo./Richmond HS) will head up the U-M squad. Freshman Isabelle Gendreau (St. Georges de Beauce, Quebec/Saint Andrew's School), sophomore Ali Stinson (Penticton, B.C./Penticton Secondary) and junior Amy Schmucker (Cold Springs, Minn./Rocori HS) will round out the Maize and Blue team. Freshman Lindsay Davis (Dexter, Mich./Dexter HS) will travel as the individual.
Last Time on Links: Broderick Leads U-M to Sixth at Lady Razorback Invite
The Wolverines brought home a sixth place finish at the Lady Razorback Invitational at the Pinnacle Country Club in Rogers, Ark. The Maize and Blue opened the three-day tournament with a 306 first round team tally before windy and slow playing conditions hampered Michigan's play in the second round as the Wolverines struggled totaling a 315 second round tally putting them in sixth place. The Wolverines recovered in perfect weather conditions in the final round carding the second lowest total of the day with a 302, but it would not move the team position as the Maize and Blue finished sixth with a 923 54-hole tournament total.
For the third straight tournament Brianna Broderick finished as the top Wolverine as she tied for seventh earning her fourth straight top 10 finish with a 225 total (74-77-74).Playing as an individual, Amy Schmucker tied for ninth with a season-best 228 54-hole total (73-80-75). Other finishes include: Ali Stinson (77-79-76) and Laura Olin (78-79-75) both tied for 19th with 232 totals, Isabelle Gendreau tied for 52nd (83-80-77/240) and Lindsay Davis tied for 84th (77-85-87/249).
Wolverines Remain Among Top 25 in Golfweek/Sagarin Performance Ratings
The Wolverines have continued to stay in the top 25 of the Golfweek/Sagarin Performance Rating Top 25, as the Wolverines are 20th as of the Oct. 24 rankings. The Maize and Blue (74.10), along with Ohio State (No. 6, 72.50), are the only representatives from the Big Ten in the top 25. Duke sits atop the poll with a rating of 71.40, with UCLA (72.35) second and Washington (72.36) third. In the individual rankings, sophomore Brianna Broderick is in the 24th spot (72.41), while Laura Olin is 53rd (73.29).
Broderick Just Rolling Along
In four tournaments this season, Brianna Broderick has four top 10 finishes. She won the Mary Fossum Invitational (Sept. 18-19), tied for fourth at the Shootout at the Legends (Oct. 4-5), was seventh at the Lady Razorback Invitational (Oct. 17-19) and tied for eighth at the Lady Northern Invitational (Sept. 11-12). Broderick has finished as the top Wolverine in the last three tournaments and leads the Maize and Blue with a U-M single-season scoring record pace of 74.42. In 12 total rounds this season, she has yet to card a single round above 78. She had a career-best one-under 71 in the second round of the Lady Northern Invitational (Sept. 11).
Broderick Joins Exclusive Group
With medalist honors at the 2004 Mary Fossum Invitational, Brianna Broderick recorded her first career collegiate tournament win. The title makes her the 12th Wolverine to win a title and gives the Wolverine program their 19th overall medalist trophy. Broderick is the first U-M sophomore to win an event since Kim Benedict in 2001.
Title Gives Broderick Career Numbers
Along with collecting her first collegiate title at the 2004 Mary Fossum Invitational, Brianna Broderick also set a career-best 54-tourmament total. Her 219 tally (72-72-75) was a career-best by four strokes. A week prior she set her previous career-best with a 223 performance at the Lady Northern Invitational at the U-M Golf Course.
What a Way to Begin the Season!
The Wolverines opened the 2004-05 season in grand fashion winning back-to-back titles C Lady Northern Invitational and the Mary Fossum Invitational team title. They followed the two titles, with a runner-up finish at the Shootout at the Legends. The two additional trophies gives the Wolverine program 24 total team titles in the history of the program.
What This Title Means In the History Books
With the two team titles at the Lady Northern Invitational and the Mary Fossum Invitational, Michigan coach Kathy Teichert earned her 15th and 16th team victory in her 12 seasons leading the Wolverines. The two titles also gives the Wolverines back-to-back seasons with two team wins and at least one tournament title in four of the last five seasons.
Olin Snaps Finishing Streak
With her tie for 19th finish, Laura Olin snapped her streak of three straight tournaments with a top four finish. Olin tied for the runner-up spot at the Lady Northern Invitational, was fourth at the Mary Fossum Invitational and tied for fourth at the Shootout at the Legends. She is second on the Wolverines with a career-best pace of 75.33 per round.
Olin's Final Round Sets Marks
Laura Olin's final round one-under 71 was the top single round individual tally at the Shootout at the Legends. It also marked the second time this year she has broken par after she fired the same total in the first round of the 2004-05 season at the Lady Northern Invitational. In addition her 71 tied her for the lowest single round score by a Wolverine for the season. Olin, who has two 71s this season, is tied with Brianna Broderick for the lowest total of the season. Broderick had a career-best one-under 71 in the second round of the Lady Northern.
Miss Consistency
Ali Stinson has continued to remain consistent throughout the fall season. She is third on the team with a 76.33 scoring average and has finished as the third best Wolverine in the last three tournaments. In fact, in her last three tournaments she has tallied totals of 231, 232 and 232. She has 12 straight rounds under 80 and in her last nine she has continued to carbon copy herself as she has single round totals of: 79, 76, 76, 77, 76, 79, 77, 79 and 76.
Schmucker Gets Back on Track
For the first time in 28 career tournaments, Amy Schmucker was not in the starting lineup. She played as the Wolverines individual at the Lady Razorback Invitational. How did she respond With a season-best performance. Her 228 total (73-80-75) at the Lady Razorback Invitational was a season-best performance by three strokes. Her previous best this season was a 231 tally (82-72-77) in the Lady Northern Invitational.
Streaks Extending and Coming Close to All-Time Mark
Laura Olin extended her consecutive tournament streak to 42 by playing at the 2004 Lady Razorback Invitational. She has not missed a tournament in her three seasons. Amy Schmucker sits at 28 straight tournaments, while Brianna Broderick and Ali Stinson have played in 16 straights tournaments for the Maize and Blue. Former Wolverine Kim Benedict (2000-03) holds the U-M record, playing in all 49 tournaments during her four-year career.
