ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan women's basketball team has lost freshman forward Katie Dierdorf (St. Louis, Mo./Visitation Academy HS) indefinitely and most likely for the remainder of the season due to a left hip injury suffered against Western Michigan on Dec. 14.
Dierdorf played sparingly in Michigan's first five games primarily due to a broken bone in the thumb on her right hand but averaged 19.0 minutes in her next three games, including her first career start vs. IUPUI on Dec. 11. She scored 10 points and grabbed four boards in a season-high 29 minutes of action against IUPUI and earned her second straight start three days later at Western Michigan.
Dierdorf began the WMU game strong, scoring six quick points in the first half before suffering the injury. She returned to play for one minute in the second half to finish with eight points and two rebounds in 11 total minutes of action vs. the Broncos.
