WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. -- Battling 40 miles per hour winds throughout the final round, the University of Michigan women's golf team carded a 329 team total, dropping the Maize and Blue one position to finish sixth at the Lady Boilermaker Invitational, held Saturday and Sunday (April 17-18) at the Kampen Course on the Birck Boilermaker Golf Complex. The Wolverines tallied a 945 team total after opening with the season's third best team total of 303, followed by a 313 in the second round.
A trio of Wolverines tied for the 18th spot with 235 54-hole totals. Junior Laura Olin (Eden Prairie, Minn./Eden Prairie HS), who has now finished as the top Wolverine in 10 straight tournaments sophomore Amy Schmucker (Cold Springs, Minn./Rocori HS), who was the only Wolverine to fire three rounds under 80, and freshman Brianna Broderick (Richmond, Mo./Richmond HS) all finished in the top 20 for the Maize and Blue.
Olin opened with a one-under 71 but found some struggles in the second, carding an 80. She closed with an 84, giving her a 235 total. Schmucker opened with a five-over 77 and then had back-to-back 79s for her 235 total, while Broderick opened with a three-over 75, followed with a four-over 76, but windy conditions marred her final round as she shot an 84 for her 235 total.

Stinson opened with an 80 and followed with an 81 before closing out with the Wolverines third 84 in the final round. Spalding sandwiched rounds of 82 around a second round 81 giving her a career-best 54-hole tournament total of 245.
Sophomore Brandi Zielinski (Sylvania, Ohio/St. Ursula's) tied for 44th with a 249 total. She struggled in the first round opening with an 86, but rallied with a six-over 78 in the second round. She closed with an 85.
Michigan State (299-303-316/918) rallied to take home the team title after Indiana (298-298-326/922) held onto it with a commanding lead after the first day. The Spartans, who trailed the Hoosiers by six strokes after the first day, tallied a 316 final round total to help give them a 10 stroke swing and take the team trophy, after the Hoosier's closed a 326 in the windy conditions.
