Exon Receives ITA Midwest Rookie of the Year Award

SKILLMAN, N.J. -- Freshman Elizabeth Exon (Irvine, Calif./Woodbridge HS), a member of the University of Michigan women's tennis team, was named the Midwest Rookie of the Year by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association, recognizing her outstanding play throughout her freshman campaign.

Exon led the Wolverines with this season with a 27-13 overall singles mark, and she compiled a 14-6 record in dual matches while competing at the No. 2 position. Exon completed her season second on the U-M freshman wins list, tied with Erryn Weggenman (27-13, 1996-97). With both of her matches at the NCAA Championships left unfinished after the overall team competition had been decided, the Wolverine newcomer finished just two wins shy of the top spot, held by Danielle Lund (29-9, 1996-97).

Exon is the third Wolverine tennis player to earn ITA Midwest Rookie of the Year accolades, joining back-to-back recipients Sarah Cyganiak and Sora Moon, who claimed the honor in 1994 and 1995, respectively.
