ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan women's water polo program added today (Thursday, May 20) its fourth recruit of the year in goalkeeper Sally Stone (San Diego, Calif./Bishop's HS), who signed a National Letter of Intent with the Wolverines.
Stone played with current Wolverines Erin Brown (San Diego, Calif./Bishop's HS), Jamie Brown (San Diego, Calif./Bishop's HS), Megan Hausmann (San Diego, Calif./Bishop's HS) and Ashley McCullum (Poway, Calif./Poway HS) at San Diego Shores club team and played with Erin Brown, Jamie Brown and Hausmann at Bishop's High School.
"We are excited to have Sally join us at Michigan," head coach Matt Anderson said. "As one of the top goalies in the nation she had her choice of where to go and we are fortunate that she choose to wear the Maize and Blue. She brings an opportunity for us to have a strong future at the goalie position after Betsey (Armstrong) leaves, and she is the type of person and outstanding academic student who is going to be a great fit in our program. She comes from an outstanding high school and club program and will bring that experience with the same expectations here."
Stone is a two-time All-Western League first team honoree and a two-time All-Division II first teamer. She was also a two-time All-American at the 2001-02 U16 Junior Olympics and was the MVP of the 2001 U16 Junior Olympics.
As the starting goalkeeper, Stone helped her high school team to three CIF San Diego championships (2001-02, 2004) and a second-place finish in 2003. While with San Diego Shores, she helped her team win Junior Olympic national championships in the U16 division in 2001-02 and finish second in the U18 division in 2003-04.
Stone has also enjoyed success in the classroom, earning the San Diego Union-Tribune scholar athlete award in 2002-03.
Stone joins Geraldine Hazlett (Modesto, Calif./Johansen HS), Jessica Ball (Newport, Calif./Newport Harbor HS) and Kaitlin Prijatel (Santa Ana, Calif./Foothill HS) as members of Anderson's second recruiting class at Michigan.
