PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. -- The third game of the University of Michigan baseball team's season-opening series vs. Illinois-Chicago, scheduled on Sunday (Feb. 27) at the New York Mets spring training complex, was cancelled due to rain.
The next game for the Wolverines (2-0) will be at Florida Atlantic University on Monday evening (Feb. 28, 7 p.m.) in Boca Raton, Fla. It will be the first-ever meeting between the Wolverines and the FAU Owls.
Junior RHP Derek Feldkamp (Adrian, Mich./Blissfield HS) is slated to start against FAU. Feldkamp (6-5, 3.59 ERA in 2004) is projected by Baseball America to be one of the top five prospects in the Big Ten Conference this season.
The 2-0 start is the best for the Wolverines since 2001, when Michigan beat Western Michigan twice in Lakeland, Fla., before losing the third game of the series to the Broncos.
