BEAUMONT, Texas -- Junior RHP Derek Feldkamp (Adrian, Mich./Blissfield HS) tossed five innings of one-hit baseball and junior 2B Chris Getz (Grosse Pointe, Mich./South HS) added three more hits to lead the University of Michigan to a 9-0 win over Central Connecticut State in collegiate baseball action Sunday morning (March 13) at Lamar University's Vincent-Beck Stadium.
The Wolverines (8-3) took three of four games on the weekend and finished with a 2-1 record in the Lamar Classic.
Feldkamp (2-0) allowed a leadoff single and retired 14 of the next 16 batters, allowing one walk and hitting a batter. He lowered his ERA to 0.56 as he has allowed just one earned run in 16 innings.
Getz has 10 hits in the last three games and his baserunning pushed the first run in the first inning on a balk call with sophomore LF Brad Roblin (Wayland, Mass./Rivers School) on third base. Roblin trotted in with the winning run. Roblin was 3-for-4 with a double, two RBI and two stolen bases, and senior CF Matt Butler (Lombard, Ill./Driscoll Catholic) had a triple and scored three runs to pace the offense.
Michigan scored one run in the first, four in the second and led 7-0 after four innings. Junior Mike Schmidt (Saginaw, Mich./Heritage HS) led off the third inning with a pinch homer and junior A.J. Scheidt (West Bloomfield, Mich./Lahser HS) had a pinch single to drive in a run in the eighth.
Four Wolverine pitchers combined on the shutout with Feldkamp working the first five innings and senior/junior LHP Paul Hammond (Mason, Ohio/Mason HS), senior RHP Phil Tognetti (Newhall, Calif./William S. Hart HS) and junior RHP Jeff Niemiec (Livonia, Mich./Catholic Central) sharing the final four frames.
The Wolverines play three non-conference games at Ohio University next weekend in Athens, Ohio. The series includes a doubleheader on Saturday (March 19) and a single game on Sunday (March 20).
