Maloney had earlier been named Big Ten Coach of the Year after he led Michigan (42-19, 21-7 Big Ten) to its second straight conference title and 34th all-time Big Ten baseball crown.
Maloney, who recently signed a five-year contract to continue as head coach of the Wolverines, completed his fifth season at Michigan in 2007, leading U-M to its third straight NCAA tournament appearance and first-ever Super Regional appearance.
Michigan finished the season ranked No. 18 in the final USA Today/ESPN Top 25 Coaches Poll after it defeated top-ranked Vanderbilt to win the NCAA Nashville Regional. The Wolverines lost to eventual national champion Oregon State in the NCAA Corvallis Super Regional.
Maloney, who is 191-112 (.630) in five seasons at Michigan, has an overall career record of 447-256-1 (.636) in 12 seasons. His teams won at least 30 games in each of his 12 seasons as a head coach, including all seven years at Ball State. He has earned 40 or more wins five times, including a career-best 43 at U-M in 2006. He has had 42 wins three times -- in 1999 while setting a school record at BSU and in 2005 and 2007 at U-M -- and earned 40 at Ball State in 1997.
Maloney has led Michigan to Big Ten Tournament action in each of his five seasons as head coach and collected the postseason conference title in 2006.
