
Dudhela, Exon Named ITA Scholar-Athletes

SKILLMAN, N.J. -- The Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) announced Tuesday (August 7) that sophomore Tanvi Dudhela(San Jose, Calif./Archbishop Mitty HS) and graduated senior Elizabeth Exon(2004-07) of the University of Michigan women's tennis team were named Scholar-Athletes for the 2006-07 academic year. It marks the first career ITA Scholar-Athlete award for Dudhela, while Exon is carrying the honor for third time in her career.
In order to earn ITA Scholar-Athlete status a player must meet the following criteria: 1.) be a varsity letter winner, 2.) have a grade point average of at least 3.50 for the current academic year, and 3.) have been enrolled at their present school for at least two semesters.
Dudhela, who is enrolled in the College of Literature, Science and the Arts, went 11-14 overall in singles as a freshman. She posted a 4-5 dual match record at No. 6, including a 3-1 mark in the Big Ten Conference. Dudhela was also Michigan's Big Ten Sportsmanship Award honoree in her first year.
Exon, who graduated from the Stephen M. Ross School of Business with a degree in business administration this past April, tallied an overall singles record of 17-19 in her final season. She went 10-12 in dual match play at Nos. 3-5, including a 5-5 mark against conference opposition. Exon, who also earned ITA Scholar-Athlete recognition as a freshman and sophomore, was a three-time Academic All-Big Ten selection.
It marks the third time that Michigan has had two players named ITA Scholar-Athletes in the same season. U-M has had at least one student-athlete earn the award in the last five years.
The 2006-07 Wolverines were also named as an ITA All-Academic Team on Tuesday. In order to qualify, a team must attain a combined grade point average of 3.2 or above for the current academic year. Michigan has earned the team honor a total of six times, including four times in the last six seasons.
