Michigan opened Big Ten action on the road for the third time in the last four seasons. Michigan head coach Kevin Borseth moves to 1-1 in Big Ten openers.
Today's game marked a return home for Ohio natives Jessica Minnfield and Carmen Reynolds. Minnfield is from Toledo and Reynolds is from Hilliard, a Columbus suburb.
The Wolverines had a strong presence in the stands with nearly 200 fans cheering for the Maize and Blue.
Courtney Boylan's two three-pointers today were her first three-point baskets since Michigan's 64-60 win over Belmont (Nov. 28) at the Southern Miss Lady Eagle Classic.
Making her 80th career start, Carly Benson went 0-for-3 from three-point range, ending her streak of nine consecutive games with a three-point field goal made.
Michigan had won four straight televised games before today's game, which aired on the Big Ten Network. U-M is now 4-2 in televised games this season, with its only other loss coming to Texas A&M, 59-56 on Nov. 20.
Michigan trailed at the break for the third time in the last four games.
Jantel Lavender is the first opponent to score 20 points or more against the Wolverines this season. Prior to today's game Kentucky's Victoria Dunlap and Southern Cal's Camille LeNoir owned the U-M opponent high with 19 points each.
Jamillya Hardley, LeQuisha Whitfield and Janell Smith made their second appearances of the season, while Kalyn McPherson saw action today for the first time in four games.
LeQuisha Whitfield scored her first points of the season. She finished the game with two points and three rebounds in four minutes of action.
