WEDNESDAY, Dec.31 -- Challenges of the Season
Seasons Greetings everyone! I hope everyone had a great Christmas. Since it is that time of year, I it would only be right to share a moment from my Christmas back home. I would have to say one of the most memorable moments was at my sisters house. My 9-year-old nephew and I were by the tree, amongst the presents and I asked him why we gave gifts on Christmas. He explained to me how the Three Wise men brought presents to baby Jesus on the day of his birth, which we now call Christmas. I was SO happy to hear that he knew what we were really celebrating on Christmas. Even though giving and receiving gifts is an exciting element of Christmas today, it is good to spend that time thanking God for the financial capabilities to exchange gifts and, most importantly, sending the most important gift of His Son.
Before leaving for break we began Big Ten conference play against Ohio State. Ohio State has won the conference title for the past four years and contends as a top 25 team almost every year. Losing to the Buckeyes is tough, but the most concerning part about that loss was our energy level. We began the game all wrong and Ohio State capitalized on our low intensity. To be a good team you must be able to compete on the road and that is something we are working on. When it comes down to it, a gym is a gym, whether it is painted maize and blue or red and white, or whether it is full of people in maize shirts or people in red shirts. In the end-- there are ten players, two baskets, and one way to win. Once again it all sounds SO easy.
This past Sunday, we took on Northwestern at home. It was successful and a great confidence boost, because we were able to see ourselves execute the way we wanted, both offensively and defensively. Senior forward Melinda Queen played phenomenally and is having an outstanding senior year. This upcoming Sunday, we face Penn State at their house. I am taking this game as a real challenge. In order to achieve our goals for this season we must compete and win on the road. No Big Ten game will be a given, not even home games. But we must find a way to protect our house and, by the same token, take care of business outside of Crisler. We control the season and we choose to strive for success. We can definitely do it and we are looking forward to it.
This is my last time writing in 2008, but I will never forget it as the year that I first shared my thoughts with you. I am grateful for all those who have read or even took a glimpse at my blogs. I pray that with this New Year you find serenity, prosperity, love, joy, and peace. Happy New Year!!! Be Safe and God Bless.
Until next year,
Proverbs 10:22
