Hepner, who was a three-year letterwinner at Dayton from 2003-05, helped Michigan to a pair of Big Ten titles during his tenure.
"Aaron did a wonderful job in all facets of our program," said Michigan head coach Rich Maloney. "We appreciate the commitment he made coming here as a volunteer assistant and handling all the duties that job entails, and handling them extremely well. He played a big role in our last two Big Ten championships and we will miss him and wish him well."
"I would like to thank Coach Maloney, Coach Keller, Coach Husted and the rest of the staff at Michigan for all they have done for me during my time at U-M," said Hepner. "I will miss coaching every single player on that team. I am very appreciative and thankful for the opportunity to coach them, and it was an honor to share the same dugout."
Hepner will begin his duties at Eastern Michigan immediately.
The Wolverines will meet up with the Eagles and Hepner three times during the 2009 campaign, beginning with a trip to Oestrike Stadium on March 24, 2009. Hepner will return to the Wilpon Complex, home of historic Ray Fisher Stadium, on March 25 and April 15.
