Michigan moves to 2-0 against Stephen F. Austin all-time. The previous meeting was during the 2000-01 season at the Ashai Rainbow Wahine Classic in Hawaii.
Michigan improves to 48-31 all-time in in-season tournament action. The Wolverines have claimed 10 tournament titles; most recently taking the Southern Miss Lady Eagle Classic title last season.
The Wolverines had some friendly faces in the crowd as the families of Rachel Sheffer, Jenny Ryan, Veronica Hicks, and Carmen Reynolds made the trip. In addition, assistant coach Mike Williams' wife, Amanda, and his son, Isaiah, joined the team.
The Wolverines' 85 points mark the third time this season U-M has scored over 80 points. In comparison, last season U-M's high was 70 points on two occasions. The last time U-M had three games with more than 80 points was during the 2002-03 season when the Wolverines scored over 80 points five times
Freshman guard Jenny Ryan opened the game with her first collegiate triple. She was 0-for-5 entering today's game.
In an odd note, the Wolverines have taken the Davis tour in their last two games. Former NBA player Antonio Davis has two daughters, Carolyn and Antoinette. Carolyn plays for Kansas and Antoinette plays for Stephen F. Austin.
Freshman forward Sam Arnold set a new career high with 16 points. It is her first career game in double figures.
U-M shot a season-best 51.9 percent in the first half. Prior to today's game, U-M's best first-half shooting percentage was 50.0 percent against Southern Mississippi on Nov. 19.
Freshman forward Rachel Sheffer had a career night against Stephen F. Austin with 12 points and four rebounds. Her previous career best was two points against Southern Mississippi on Nov. 19.
U-M shot a season-best 81.8 percent from the line in tonight's contest and went to the line a season-best 30 times.
Junior guard Veronica Hicks posted her fifth game in double figures in today's contest. She has scored in double figures in each of U-M's games this season. In addition, Hicks played in her 28th consecutive game in tonight's contest.
Head coach Kevin Borseth used 11 players in today's contest, showcasing the depth of the Wolverines. In U-M's wins against Ball State and Southern Miss, Borseth went 13 deep.
Michigan has had at least three players in double figures in four of its five games this season. The Wolverines had five players in double figures against Southern Mississippi on Nov. 19.
