Michigan (27-15, 9-6 Big Ten) retained a share of first place in the conference with the win. The win gave Michigan the series win two games to one and a tie with Northwestern (9-6) for first. OSU drops into a three-way tie for third place with Minnesota and Purdue.
Rich Maloney recorded his 550th career win as a head coach in 15 seasons, the last eight seasons at U-M.
Senior RF Nick Urban, who is hitting .284 (38-for-134), was 1-for-2 with a two-run homer and a walk. Urban's second-inning homer, his second of the season, gave U-M a 2-0 lead and proved to be his third game-winning RBI of the campaign. Urban had two 'gamers' in the OSU series and he has seven in his Wolverine career. Urban has five career home runs.
Junior RHP Tyler Burgoon (6-2, 3.08 ERA, eight saves) made his third appearance of the weekend and got a game-ending double play to close out the win and earn his eighth save of the season. He was 0-1 with two saves in the OSU series.
Burgoon's eight saves pull him into a tie for third on U-M's single-season saves list with Michael Powers (2008) and Todd Marion (1990 and 1993). The record is 10 saves shared by Marion (1992) and Tyler Steketee (1997)
Burgoon leads the Wolverines in appearances (18), strikeouts (61), wins (6) and saves (8) this season.
Burgoon is 4-1 with all eight of his saves in his 15 appearances since moving back to the bullpen after the North Carolina series at the start of March. He was 2-1 in three starts to open the season.
Burgoon has 17 career saves to snap his tie for second on Michigan's career saves list with John Arvai (16 saves, 1993-96). The record is 32 saves by Todd Marion (1990-93).
Senior 1B Mike Dufek, who is hitting .318 (55-for-173), was 2-for-4 with a double and a homer. Dufek's team-leading 17th double of the season was U-M's first hit of the game and he scored on Nick Urban's homer. Dufek added a solo homer in the sixth inning for insurance.
Dufek has 43 doubles, 23 homers and 128 runs batted in in his Michigan career.
Junior OF Ryan LaMarre, who is hitting .450 (36-for-80), was 1-for-4 with a single and a run-scoring grounder in the win. LaMarre has hits in 21 of his last 23 games.
Freshman SS Derek Dennis, who is hitting .269 (35-for-130), was 1-for-3 and scored a run, but he earned his note with his glove, posting five putouts and five assists and combining with 1B Mike Dufek on a 6-3 groundball double play to end the game. For the series, Dennis handled 21 chances (nine putouts, 12 assists) without an error and participated in three double plays.
Sophomore RHP Brandon Sinnery (4-0, 3.24 ERA) pitched 5.1 innings, allowing seven hits and two runs as he collected his fourth win of the season. Sinnery is 6-2 in his U-M career.
