BRIDGEPORT, Pa. -- Rising seniors Alison Mantel (Miami, Fla./Gulliver) and Cara Reitz (Miami, Fla./Gulliver) of the University of Michigan water polo team were among 138 players named to the 2010 Collegiate Water Polo Association's Scholar-Athlete Team, the conference announced Tuesday (July 13).
Mantel, who earned Superior (3.41 to 3.7 GPA) honors, is seeking a degree in environment and economics. She led the Wolverines with 56 goals and a program-record 50 assists during her junior campaign. Reitz received Excellent (3.25 to 3.40 GPA) designation as an anthropology major while setting career highs in goals (39), points (56) and steals (59) in 2010.
Both players collected their third selection to the CWPA Scholar-Athlete Team, formerly named the CWPA All-Academic Team. Only two Wolverines, Carrie Stover (2006-09) and Wesley Ellison (2004-07), have earned a conference academic distinction on four occasions.
Michigan claimed its ninth CWPA division crown, third straight conference title and made its fifth NCAA tournament appearance during the 2010 campaign.
