STOCKBRIDGE, Ga. -- Using top-15 finishes from junior Meagan Bauer (Grand Blanc, Mich./Grand Blanc) and freshman Yugene Lee (Athens, Ga./Oconee County), the University of Michigan women's golf team closed with a 54-hole total of 916 today (Tuesday, March 22) to finish sixth at the 2011 John Kirk/Panther Intercollegiate at Eagle's Landing Country Club. U-M posted team rounds of 299, 307 and 310 during the two-day event.
Using an opening two-under 70 from Bauer and freshman Alyssa Shimel's (Pemberville, Ohio/Eastwood) two-over 74 in the first round on Monday (March 21), the Wolverines got out of the gates early, posting a 299 -- U-M's fourth sub-300 round of the season. Playing in the No. 1 position for the first time in her career, Lee bounced back from an opening 77 in the first round to card an even-par 72 in the second and lead the Wolverines to a 307, placing U-M third after 36 holes at 606.
Lee's closing 76 and 78s from Bauer, senior Min Yean Tan (Penang Island, Malaysia/Hills International College [Australia]) and sophomore Caramia Sitompul (Jakarta, Indonesia/Bradenton Prep Academy [Bradenton, Fla.), the Wolverines had a 310 final-round score to slip to sixth.
Bauer led the way for Michigan, closing with her third top-20 finish of the season as she tied for 11th at 224 (70-76-78). Playing in her home state, Lee posted her second straight top-15 finish as she tied for 14th at 225 (77-72-76). Rounding out Michigan's starting five finishes, Shimel was 43rd at 235 (74-79-82), Tan tied for 46th at 237 (78-81-78) and Sitompul tied for 49th at 238 (80-80-78). Freshman Chelsea Pezzola (Bradenton, Fla./Saint Stephens Episcopal Prep) traveled as an individual and tied for 61st at 242 (79-86-77).
The Wolverines will close out their regular season Friday through Sunday, April 1-3, for Ole Miss' 2011 Rebel Intercollegiate at the Ole Miss Golf Course in Oxford, Miss.

Meagan Bauer's first-round two-under 70 marked her fourth sub-par round of the season. She is now tied for the team lead in sub-par rounds with Min Yean Tan.
For just the second time this season, all five starting Wolverines finished among the top 50 individually. The only other time this season U-M has had all five starters in the top 50 was at the 2010 Mary Fossum Invitational.
Min Yean Tan has played in 44 consecutive events for the Wolverines. She has yet to miss a start in her career.

Michigan Head Coach Cheryl Stacy
On the John Kirk/Panther Intercollegiate ... "I am disappointed with our finish. I thought we could do better than what we closed. We put ourselves in good position early, but were not able to get the putts to sink in the final round. Going into this event, we were really looking for a tournament win or a second-place finish going in. Meagan (Bauer) got off to a great start, but a few missed shots here and there cost her. Yugene (Lee) had a good tournament as well. It was nice to see her play well again. Overall, we had some good things happen, but we need to make sure we take advantage of opportunities when they are there."
