ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Seniors Alison Mantel (Miami, Fla./Gulliver) and Cara Reitz (Miami, Fla./Gulliver), freshmen Sophie Høegh (Coral Gables, Fla./Ransom Everglades) and Laura Milstead (Hermosa Beach, Calif./Mira Costa), and junior Meagan Cobb (Hudsonville, Mich./Hudsonville) from the 2010-11 University of Michigan water polo team have received honors for their academic and athletic performance last season, being named to the 2011 Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Women's Varsity Scholar-Athlete Team.
Mantel, Høegh, and Milstead garnered "Superior" honors for each maintaining a grade-point average between 3.41 and 3.70. Reitz and Cobb both received "Excellent" honors for their GPAs between 3.20 and 3.40. The selection for this honor marks the fourth for Mantel and Reitz, while Høegh, Milstead, and Cobb are all receiving their first for the CWPA Scholar-Athlete Team.
In May, Mantel was also presented with the 2011 Collegiate Water Polo Association Women's Varsity Scholar-Athlete of the Year award, which recognizes an outstanding senior student-athlete who has achieved success in both the scholastic and athletic arenas while possessing a spirit which provides service to the community.
Overall, the University of Michigan's varsity water polo team GPA rested at 3.12, ranking the squad as the eighth highest among teams that submitted information for honors in the country.
