MADISON, Wis. -- Despite holding a 14-7 edge in shots and a 9-1 advantage on corner kicks, the University of Michigan men's soccer team fell AT Wisconsin, 2-1, on Saturday (Oct. 13) at the McClimon Soccer Complex. A class finish from Wisconsin's Nick Janus in the 80th minute proved to be the backbreaker for the Wolverines, who fall to 1-2-1 in Big Ten play with the defeat.

Wisconsin took the early lead, as Chris Prince took a pass from Drew Conner following a deflection inside the six-yard box and beat Michigan goalkeeper junior/sophomore Adam Grinwis (Ada, Mich./Forest Hills) for the early advantage.

Eight minutes and 40 seconds later, Michigan answered right back with a tally of its own. Freshman/sophomore Tyler Arnone (Hicksville, N.Y./Hicksville) took a through-ball from senior captain Brian Klemczak (Livonia, Mich./Livonia Stevenson) and executed the clinical finish from inside the 18-yard box to knot the contest at 1-1.

Michigan had a golden chance in the 38th minute, as freshman James Murphy (Oxford, England/Henry Box School) volleyed a shot from the top of the 18 with his left foot that forced Badger goalkeeper Chase Rau to tip the shot over the crossbar to preserve the 1-1 score line heading into the intermission.

The Badgers took the lead for good in the 80th minute on the score from Janus, who beat Grinwis with the score on an assist from Prince.

The Maize and Blue mustered a great chance with less than five minutes remaining. Fabio Pereira (Sao Paolo, Brazil/South Kent [Conn.]) took a free kick from about 25 yards out but deflected off the wall to Klemczak, who fired a shot from distance that sailed high of the net.

The Wolverines had a pair of corners in the final moments of action, which were both cleaned up by the Badger defense to secure the unfavorable outcome.

Michigan continues its road swing with a matchup against Akron, currently ranked No. 3 nationally, Tuesday (Oct. 16) at 7 p.m. at First Energy Stadium-Cub Cadet Field in Akron, Ohio.
