KANSAS CITY, Kan. -- Senior captains Corinne Harris and Christina Murillo of the University of Michigan women's soccer team were named to the 2015 NSCAA Division I All-Great Lakes Region first and second team, respectively, the organization announced Friday (Dec. 4).
Harris and Murillo, who were both previously named to the All-Big Ten first team (Oct. 30), were among the 36 players selected to the All-Great Lakes Region teams (12 each on first, second and third teams). The Wolverines have placed at least one player on the All-Region team in each of the last four seasons, including Harris who earned a spot on the second team last season.
Harris, the 2015 All-Region first teamer from Chicago, Illinois, was the heartbeat of the Maize and Blue all season. She has missed just one game in her Michigan career, playing in 87 games with 66 starts. She finished the season with three goals and two assists, giving her a total of 22 career assists, which rank fourth all-time at Michigan. On Oct. 8, she was featured as No. 8 on SportsCenter's Top 10 Plays with her game-winning goal against No. 22 Northwestern. Following the season, the psychology major was also named to the Capital One Academic All-District Five first team for the second straight season and chosen as the team's representative for the Big Ten Sportsmanship Award.
Murillo rejoined the Wolverines for the 2015 season after taking the 2014-15 academic year off to train with the Mexican National Team. She became the first Wolverine to compete in the FIFA Women's World Cup this past summer and also helped lead Mexico to the bronze medal at the 2015 Pan American Games. The Ojai, California, native anchored Michigan's defense that boasted nine shutouts and allowed an average of .95 goals per game. Murillo has started 78 of 80 games played at U-M, including all 21 matches this season. Murillo led Michigan and finished tied for second in the Big Ten with seven assists, giving her a total of 15 assists and two goals in her career. On Sept. 22, she was named Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week after leading U-M to back-to-back shutout wins over Nebraska and Iowa.
Harris and Murillo helped captain the Wolverine squad that went 12-7-2 overall, including 6-3-2 in Big Ten play (fifth), and advanced to the semifinals of the Big Ten Tournament.
