ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan women's tennis team's 2015 recruiting class of Kate Fahey, Brienne Minor and Teona Velehorschi has been ranked No. 3 by tennisrecruiting.net. The class features a pair of blue-chip recruits and is the top-ranked class in the Big Ten.
The No. 3 ranking for a class is the second-highest a U-M class has ever been ranked. This year's current senior class of Emina Bektas, Sarah Lee and Kristen Dodge came in at No. 2 in 2011.
Fahey, a blue-chip recruit, comes to Ann Arbor as the No. 3-ranked senior in the country and No. 1-ranked recruit from New Jersey. She was the 2014 Delray Beach ITF champion and won the back draw at the 2014 Clay Court Championships (G18s). Fahey also reached the doubles quarterfinals at the Clay Court Championships, while winning the 2012 and 2013 Crotona Cup doubles titles. She was the New Jersey state singles champion as a senior this fall and was runner-up as a sophomore in 2012. Fahey was the 2012 National Open G18s doubles champion and has multiple G16s and G18s Eastern Sectional Championship wins. She has maintained better than a 4.0 GPA all throughout high school and earned high honors as a freshman and sophomore.
Minor joins Fahey as a blue-chip recruit and is currently rated as the No. 15 recruit in the country. She was the 18s Clay Courts doubles champion, 16s Easter Bowl doubles champion and 16s Orange Bowl doubles champion. Minor was the 18s National Selection singles and doubles champion, while also winning the Illinois state single championship. She is also a member of National Honors Society.
Velehorschi is a member of Canada's Junior Fed Cup team and has been ranked as high as No. 2 in Canada and No. 1 in Ontario for the U16 age group. She is also slotted at No. 4 in the U18 category in Canada. She has won three ITF singles titles and one ITF doubles crown, while making an appearance in the singles final at the Canadian Women Open Indoor Championships.
Michigan loses the trio of Bektas, Dodge and Lee to graduation this spring.
