Michigan and Maryland played today for the first time since the 1957 season. Michigan leads the overall series, 9-5.
Junior Jacob Cronenworth started on the mound for the first time as a collegian in the opener. Cronenworth set career highs in innings pitched (5.0) and strikeouts (9).
Cronenworth drove in five runs in the nightcap, which also is a career high. He has had three runs batted in in a game eight times. The five RBI also included his sixth career home run.
Junior Cody Bruder has reached base in 19 consecutive games after going 3-for-8 in the doubleheader. Bruder also has an 11-game hitting streak.
Freshman Drew Lugbauer picked up his fifth double of the year in the opener. He then had his first career triple in the nightcap. Six of Lugbauer's 14 hits have been for extra bases.
Freshman Ryan Nutof set a career high in innings pitched (7.1) in the second game. He struck out six, which was one away from a career best while lowering his earned-run average to 2.92.
Michigan has now played five doubleheaders this season after today's twinbill.
