Brian Archer is a sophomore faceoff man for the University of Michigan men's lacrosse team. In his second year of scribing excellence in 'Under the Arch,' Archer, a Brighton, Michigan, native, provides periodic commentary, musings, and observations from an inside perspective on Team Four. The program can also neither confirm nor deny that he writes his installments under the actual arch in the Diag on campus, as moped parking can be tricky in the surrounding area.
The Michigan men's lacrosse team is entering a new part of our season; but first, let's recap what amazing things have happened so far this year:
- We won our longest game ever (4OT) versus Saint Joseph's
- Charlie Keady scored his first career goal (insane)
- Ian King won Inside Lacrosse Division I Player of the Week (decent)
- Aaron Madaisky didn't get any shorter
- Will Meter got a haircut deemed the "Barwin" that garnered him immediate fame
It's been a wild ride filled with some unforgettable moments on and off the field. These memories will surely be close to our hearts as we continue on in our season to make even more ... Next stop: College Park, Maryland.
Inaugural Big Ten Conference season ... Big Ten champions ... Beat Ohio ... These are all thoughts that keep racing through our minds as we start a new season this week: the Big Ten season.
It's crazy to think we've played eight games already this year. It feels just last week we were gearing up for our first game against Bellarmine. Although the start to this year's season hasn't been perfect, we've enjoyed every moment. We measure our success in wins and losses and that'll never change. However, whether we win or lose, we're still improving. These last eight weeks have been a predecessor for what's to come. Our team goals are always to beat Ohio State and become Big Ten champions -- and now is the time they really come into focus.
As I've mentioned in previous posts, we have a lot of opportunities to do program "firsts." Winning our first Big Ten game, making the first Big Ten tournament and winning the first-ever Big Ten Championship are all on our to-do list before this season ends. Anything less would be a disappointment.
