Wolverine Trio Headed to NCAA Individual Tournaments

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- Senior Emina Bektas earned her fourth straight NCAA Singles Tournament berth to highlight the University of Michigan women's tennis team's individual selections to the NCAA Singles and Doubles Championships as announced by the NCAA on Wednesday (April 29). Bektas will also pair with freshman Alex Najarian in the NCAA Doubles Championship, while junior Ronit Yurovsky also earned a singles bid.
The tournaments will run May 20-25 at Baylor University in Waco, Texas.
Bektas will be making her fourth straight appearance in each of the tournaments, becoming the only Wolverine in program history to accomplish that feat. The senior carries a 31-6 overall record on the singles court, including a 21-3 dual-match mark. She is currently ranked No. 28 by the ITA in singles and has won 15 straight matches.
Bektas and Najarian are currently ranked No. 19 nationally and received the Big Ten's automatic bid after going 10-1 in conference action at the No. 1 slot. The duo holds a 30-7 overall record and 18-4 mark at No. 1 in dual-match action. Bektas will be making her fourth straight NCAA Doubles Championship appearance, while this bid marks the first appearance for Najarian.
Rounding out Michigan's selections is Yuorvsky, who is making her third straight NCAA Singles Championship. It is the third straight season that Yurovsky and Bektas are appearing together in the singles tournament, marking the only times U-M has had more than one participant. Yurovsky went 20-2 in dual matches this season, bringing her overall record to 32-8. She is currently ranked No. 33 by the ITA.
Michigan (24-3) received the No. 11 seed for the upcoming NCAA Tournament and will host the first and second rounds of the tournament May 8-9 at the Varsity Tennis Center. Miami (Ohio) (19-6), Kentucky (15-12) and DePaul (21-4) will join Michigan at the VTC. DePaul and Kentucky will start things off on Friday, May 8, playing at 10 a.m. Michigan will follow against Miami at 1 p.m. The winners will play on Saturday, May 9, at 1 p.m. to advance to the third round.
