ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Former University of Michigan men's lacrosse player Kyle Jackson (2013-16) was selected No. 7 overall by the Rochester Knighthawks in the 2016 National Lacrosse League Draft Monday (Sept. 26).
Jackson departed Michigan as the program's all-time leading scorer with 88 goals and 25 assists for 113 points. Throughout his career at Michigan, he was named team offensive MVP, Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week on two occasions, All-ECAC first team, ECAC all-rookie team and ECAC Rookie of the Week.
Selected with a pick that was acquired from Colorado prior to the draft, he was ranked as the No. 33 prospect entering the draft by Inside Lacrosse. Jackson excelled in indoor box lacrosse as a junior player. The former Cobourg Kodiak registered 77 points in his 2014 season but played sparingly the past two seasons in order to focus on his field lacrosse career with the Wolverines.
Jackson is the first Wolverine in varsity program history to be drafted by an NLL franchise. Earlier this year he became the second U-M player to be signed by a Major League Lacrosse franchise when he signed a free agent deal with the Boston Cannons.
The NLL season, which is played on an indoor field with the dimensions of an ice hockey rink, runs from January to May. The MLL season, an outdoor field variety of lacrosse that is most common to Americans, commences in late April.
