
Michigan to Host Purdue in Annual 'Pink Game'

» Michigan is hosting Purdue in its annual "Pink Game," with the team wearing pink shoes and white uniforms with pink trim. In addition, the coaching staff will wear pink tennis shoes for the game to help raise breast cancer awareness.

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The No. 13-ranked University of Michigan women's basketball team (19-4, 8-2 B1G) kicks off the month of February at Crisler Center, hosting Purdue (14-8, 5-3 B1G) at 8 p.m. The game is Michigan's annual "Pink Game," and can be seen live on the Big Ten Network. It is also part of Michigan's "Workweek Hustle" promotion where fans can get a ticket, hot dog and drink for $5.
• Michigan's game against Purdue is its annual "Pink Game," during which the team will be wearing pink shoes and white uniforms with pink trim. In addition, Michigan's coaching staff will wear pink tennis shoes. U-M met with a group of breast cancer survivors on Jan. 21, having dinner with and discussing the importance of self-screening and being your own health advocate. The women who shared their stories with the team will appear on the video board to announce the Michigan starting lineup.
• Michigan is riding a six-game win streak in Big Ten play, tied for the third-longest streak in program history. U-M won six straight league games last season as two of Michigan's four longest streaks have come under head coach Kim Barnes Arico. U-M won seven straight Big Ten games during the 1989-90 season and eight consecutive to end the 1999-2000 conference season. Coupled with a Big Ten-opening win in the 2000-01 season, Michigan's school record for consecutive Big Ten victories is nine.
• After going 7-1 in the month of January, Michigan will play just six games in the month of February. U-M kicks it off against Purdue on Thursday (Feb. 1), the first of three home games this month. Michigan is 12-2 at Crisler Center this season.
• Michigan moved up to No. 13 in this week's Associated Press poll, its highest ranking since coming in at No. 12 on Dec. 24, 2001. U-M is No. 14 in the USA Today Coaches Poll and has appeared in both polls all season long. As of Jan. 30, Michigan's RPI is 22.
• The game against Purdue features the No. 2 scoring defense (Michigan, 60.1 ppg) and No. 3 scoring defense (Purdue, 61.2 ppg) in the Big Ten. The Wolverines are third in field-goal-percentage defense (.368), while the Boilermakers come in at No. 10 (.407).
• Purdue (14-8, 5-3 B1G) is coming off an 88-73 win over Penn State on Sunday (Jan. 28). The Boilermakers feature three players in double-figure scoring in Andreona Keys (13.8 ppg), Ae'Rianna Harris (13.0 ppg) and Dominique Oden (11.8 ppg). Purdue is averaging 65.9 points per game on 44.5 percent shooting while allowing 61.2 points per game on 40.7 percent shooting. Michigan has won the last two games between the two schools.
