Robbie Mertz (Oct. 17)
2018 Senior CLASS Award Finalist -- Senior Robbie Mertz was named one of 10 national finalists for the 2018 Senior CLASS Award on Wednesday, Oct. 17. The finalists were chosen by a selection committee from the list of 30 men's candidates candidates announced in September. Nationwide fan voting begins immediately to help select the winner, and fans are encouraged to vote on the Senior CLASS Award website through Nov. 18, 2018. Fan votes will be combined with media and Division I head coaches' votes to determine the winner. The Senior CLASS Award winners will be announced during the 2018 NCAA Men's and Women's College Cup® championships later this fall. Mertz has started all 13 matches in the midfield, scoring two goals and issuing two assists. He is enrolled in the Stephen M. Umar Farouk Osman (Oct. 2)
Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week -- Sophomore Umar Farouk Osman was named Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week on Tuesday (Oct. 2) after recording two goals and an assist in last week's wins over Ohio State and Northwestern. After being left off the scoresheet in the team's opening weekend of the season, Osman has recorded 15 points (six goals, three assists) in his last seven matches. » Big Ten Release
Ivo Cerda, Robbie Mertz (Sept. 19)
2018 Senior CLASS Award Nominees -- Senior captains Ivo Cerda and Robbie Mertz were named two of the 30 candidates for the 2018 Senior CLASS Award for Men's Soccer on Wednesday, Sept. 19. Only one other school (Loyola Maryland) had two candidates. Both men have started all six matches this year. Mertz has two goals and one assist, while Cerda has one goal -- the game-winner in overtime against Western Michigan on Sept. 7. An acronym for "Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School," the Senior CLASS Award honors the attributes of senior student-athletes in four areas: community, classroom, character and competition. From the list of 30 candidates, a committee will select 10 finalists for the 2018 Senior CLASS Award. Those 10 names will then be placed on the official ballot for a nationwide vote. Fan balloting will be coupled with votes from coaches and media to determine the recipient of the award. » Full Release
Jackson Ragen (Sept. 18)
Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week & TopDrawerSoccer.com Men's Team of the Week -- Sophomore defender Jackson Ragen was named Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week and was named to TopDrawerSoccer.com's Men's Team of the Week. Ragen started and played all 90 minutes on the back line in Michigan's shutout wins over Marquette (Sept. 10) and Rutgers (Sept. 14) last week. He's one of two Wolverines (along with goalkeeper Henry Mashburn) to play every minute this season. » Big Ten Release
