ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The No. 13-ranked University of Michigan men's tennis team (5-2) will host two matches this Sunday (Feb. 18) at the Varsity Tennis Center. The Wolverines will face Memphis (4-2) at 11 a.m., before battling Western Michigan (7-1) at 4 p.m.
• Including this season, the Wolverines have compiled a record of 26-3 in dual-match play at the Varsity Tennis Center over the past three years. This past weekend's loss to Florida was the first non-conference loss at home over that span.
• Memphis and Western Michigan are both coming off wins over Big Ten opponents. Western Michigan took down Michigan State on Friday by a score of 5-2, while Memphis defeated Penn State, 4-1, on Saturday.
• Playing in the first singles position, Memphis senior Ryan Peniston won both of his matches in straight-sets this past weekend and is currently ranked No. 61 by the ITA.
• Similar to Michigan, both of Memphis' losses this year have been to teams ranked in the top 25 nationally. The Tigers fell in consecutive matches to No. 4 Georgia (Jan. 29) and No. 25 Texas Tech (Feb. 3).
• This will be just the second time in program history that the Wolverines will face Memphis in dual-match play. The first meeting came in 2015, as unranked Michigan upset the then-No. 22 Tigers, 6-1, at the Varsity Tennis Center. Current Wolverines Runhao Hua, Alex Knight, Davis Crocker and Carter Lin all picked up singles victories.
• Sunday's match against Western Michigan will be the 64th time that U-M will take on its in-state foe. The Maize and Blue currently hold a 55-8 record in the all-time series against the Broncos, with the last match coming in 2015 -- a 6-1 Wolverine victory at the Varsity Tennis Center.
• The Broncos are riding a four-match win streak. Over that stretch, senior Maik Steiner (ranked No. 96 nationally) has won all three of his singles matches in straight-sets, playing all of his matches in the first singles position.
• Western Michigan's record of 7-1 is the best start for the program since 2009-10, a season in which the Broncos got off to a 7-0 mark and eventually finished 21-11.
• U-M senior Carter Lin is now 4-0 in his singles matches on the season after picking up wins over Andrew Ball (Harvard) and Nic Barretto (California) last weekend.
• Fellow U-M senior Alex Knight is ranked No. 3 by the ITA. Knight is the first Wolverine men's tennis player ranked in the top five since Evan King in the 2012-13 season (No.4).
